Dear friends,
If you read Candle in the dark, you’ll have seen that I was planning to hold a gathering for us on Saturday 28th December. An invitation to relax into stillness together amidst the chaos of the season. But fatigue intervenes and requires me to postpone.
Fatigue is a potent teacher in the power of our choices. Most of us learn as children that we should do “what we’ve said we’ll do”. We learn that it is good to put our responsibility to others first.
Our bodies tell us another story. They ask us to let go of all the “shoulds” and invite us to choose instead the most loving thing.
What is the most loving thing for me, in this moment?
For me, right now, that’s letting go of all the plans I had made and delving into rest. And it feels good. Because I’m ending the year not as the space-holding meditation teacher/wizard I had envisaged, but the quiet person choosing herself and her needs above all things, purely as an act of self-kindness.
I wonder if this might not be the most radical choice of all.
If we let “love” instead of '“should” guide the direction of our lives, it might all feel very different.
So as I cancel our gathering, I’ll ask instead this question:
What is the most loving thing you can do for yourself in this moment?
Where can you put down the “shoulds” and choose what feels good to you?
This feels like a potent way to end our year together. Thank you, known and unknown friends, for walking alongside me.
I’ll see you in 2025.
To the most loving choices,
Miranda
If you want a meditative way to close your year, here’s my Blessing Yourself yoga nidra. I created this practice to be an act of conscious self-love - choosing to honour yourself and your journey through life. It’s intended to bring you into the felt sense of love, connection and enoughness. May it bring you joy.
